Through the culinary medicine program at UAMS, medical students and other health professions students learn about healthy eating and nutrition in hands-on cooking experiences and a health-meets-food curriculum designed to give them knowledge and confidence for counseling patients on chronic disease management and healthy food choices. The program started in 2019 with some initial funding from a Chancellor’s Circle grant and additional support to offer the culinary medicine curriculum to medical students and through the UAMS interprofessional education program.

Supporting the UAMS culinary medicine program will ensure the resources, faculty and facilities to continue offering the student curriculum while building the infrastructure for community programs, expanded nutrition research and other activities toward the goal of improving the lives of Arkansans.
